My name is Rebecca Burke and I am currently a sophomore at TCU. I am a Pre-major so right now I am taking basics to help figure out what I want to do as a career.
I have always enjoyed English, however; like discussed in class I enjoy it for the reading aspect, not the writing. Because I prefer reading I mostly take English writing classes, such as this one, because they are mandatory. I do however hope to become a better writer and build up confidence about my skills as a writer. Almost every job requires some writing abilities, so even though this isn’t my first choice for a class, I still believe it is important and necessary for my future.
With a lot of effort and struggle I can produce a decent paper. No matter how decent the paper, many times it does not make the endeavor seem worthwhile. Looking at writing beyond the aspect of school work though, I do tend to spend a lot of time emailing and or texting. Like many people today, I am addicted to the technological advances that our generation has. I have never been very confident with my writing skills; however, with the technology today I can at least have the benefits of spell check and allowing the computer to highlight my sentences that don’t make sense. These sorts of things help with confidence because I at least know my spelling and grammatical errors are taken care of. Whether I feel confident about my writing ability or not I would still much rather leave writing to professionals.
Having read about arguments and how they can be used in writing, I find that my second paragraph is an actual argument. I was trying to argue the importance of writing classes, and the need for writing in ones career. I discovered the importance of writing in society today and then briefly argued that it was necessary for me. Had I started stating facts about the use of writing in society today, my paragraph would have been more of a persuasion. Obviously this is my blog so it is a lot of my opinions, but I think that shows my personality as being someone who uses examples or facts to back up what I believe. It’s clear that there are many ways to express an argument through text however it is hard to argue without facts for support.
I understand and agree to the terms of our course syllabus.

Hey !
How was your day ? is kind of weird to comment on others people blog !!! So I read you blog and you didn't say where you are from ??? why did you chose TCU ?? I was really torn about my mayor and after all I don't know if I like it so I think is good that you are taking your time to think about what you want to study !!! How was your summer ??? Well see you in class !!
Hey Rebecca! I understand how it feels not knowing what to study. I'm still not sure if I'm doing the right thing either. I love how much easier it is to write nowadays with spell check and all that good stuff. You can't really go wrong, right? I hope you're having a great week!
Hi Rebecca,
Your blog is looking good! Hopefully we can work together on your writing skills this semester to make every assignment seem "worthwhile." Let's see what we can do! Glad to have you with us.
